Each day during the month of October, column author Paula Carrasquillo will feature a story written by a survivor of domestic violence. At the end of October, a compilation of all stories will be available for free as an e-book.

  5. From Laura’s story: “To add to my confusion, he would constantly tell me he had no conscience and that I was stronger than he thought.”
    How creepy! My abuser said the same thing to me.

    • Textbook! These people are textbook. My ex said to me once, “You think I’m garbage, don’t you? I’m trash to you.” I found it sad that he would even suggest I thought such a thing. Made me feel horrible and wonder to myself what could have happened to him to make him think such things about himself. Today, I understand that the only thing that happened to him was that he was born without a conscience, and he absolutely is trash. I do not and won’t apologize for feeling that way, either. Keeps me shielded from him and others like him.
