BETHESDA, Md., June 28, 2014 — Overweight and unfit Americans know they are fat. They must, because memberships to gyms and fitness centers have reached 54.1 million, which represents a 6.4% year-over-year increase for the past five years.

Yet, this increase in gym memberships has not correlated with a decrease in the percentage of overweight and obese Americans. Those numbers continue to grow. According to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, roughly 69.1% of American adults 20 years and older are overweight or obese, an increase of almost 15% in 2 decades.

Weight loss is not easy nor is it cheap. Not every American can afford a gym or studio membership considering the average cost of gym membership hovers around $55/month. Yet, even those who can squeeze fitness into their budgets are not maximizing their return on investment. Read more.

The Yoga exercising poses like Virabhadrasana, Utkatasana, Vrksasana etc can help you to burn fats and calories, thus helping to loose weight. These Yoga exercises are beneficial for cutting the fats and loosing weight.

Great article Paula – such great tips/advice.

I am living proof that a person does not need a fancy gym membership or some “boot camp” style routine to get fit and stay in shape. The way I do it is I incorporate exercise into my daily life — it is part of my life, not some chore I must “do”.

    Here’s how I do it:
1.) I walk to/from the train station 5 days a week (2 miles round trip)
2.) If I need to move between floors of my high rise office I take the stairs versus the elevator
    3.) I attend a 2 hour ballet class 1 day a week (en pointe)
    4.) I run 3-5 miles 1-2 days a week
5.) I mow my lawn every weekend during the warmer months, plus I garden
6.) During the winter months I shovel the snow versus use a snow blower
7.) I am constantly working on my fixer-upper house which means during the weekends I do not have time to sit around, stuffing my face while watching *TV I’m too busy moving that I rarely sit down until 7 pm.

*I cancelled my cable subscription 2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I mostly watch PBS or I stream via Netflix.

Plus, as you know I am a vegan and that had a tremendous impact on my weight without even trying. I eat more food as a vegan but the calories are dense because they are whole foods.

    🙂

Yes. Making activity part of our daily lives is essential. You have found the perfect form of exercise in your every-day living. Awesome! (BTW, I’m drinking a homemade soy latte as I type. 🙂 )

Oooooooh. How do you like the Soy Latte? I’m so used to not having dairy in my life I no longer remember what it tastes like.

Do you think you could get used to it?

I haven’t been drinking regular lattes for almost two months! I started with the sweet vanilla soy and have graduated to unsweetened soy milk. I finally bought the cultured coconut milk today (found unflavored and unsweetened FINALLY!) and can definitely get used to it. I haven’t had regular yogurt in weeks. You’d be proud. 🙂

    Hello Paula,
I think there’s so many diet plan that can be followed for loosing weight. That will be a healthy way for your pocket as well. But if you are trying too much but not getting any output you should rush to the doctor because there might be another reason. Also there’s few other products are available like the one I know plexus slim. Hope you may like my suggestion.

Weight loss does not have to be expensive, you do not have to join a gym. I work out at home doing aerobics or running doing a HIIT routine and it has transformed my body into something I always dreamed of. I started doing it about 6 months ago after reading a review of the Visimpact system at http://dietplansreviewed.net/ and have not looked back since. HIIT releases fat cells into the bloodstream during the high intensity periods, then uses them as fuel during the low intensity training. I have lost nearly 40lbs and look and feel better than ever.
